C-Section Complication Lawyer
The C-Section birth process also known as the Cesarean birth process is most commonly used for situations where the birth process is not occurring in the natural cephalic method which is a head first presentation. C-Sections are performed when the doctors observe, through the use of ultrasounds, that the child is will not be born head first and in fact is in one of the following positions:
- Shoulder presentation- a situation where the child will be born shoulder or arm first.
- Malpresentation- Often times this is interchangeable with breech birth and deals with the reversed presentation of the child in the birth process.
- Breech birth- A term used for the reverse presentation of the child in the birth process where the child is born feet first or buttock first.
- Skewed fetal lie- Fetal lie deals with the relationship between the child’s head and the mothers tail bone. If the two are parallel it is a normal lie. If the child’s head and the mother’s tail bone are not parallel this is a skewed fetal lie. The greater the number of degrees from a parallel axis, the greater the skew and the greater for a potential complication.
- Transverse Position- this is the extreme end of skewed fetal lie where axis line from the mother's tail bone and the line of the child cross forming a 90 degree angle.
- Poor fetal altitude- Fetal altitude deals with the child and its positioning. If the child is in the fetal position with head down and knees drawn towards the chest then the child has good fetal altitude. However, if the child’s feet are not drawn in or if a body part is flared outward as opposed to the fetal positioning this is poor fetal altitude and can present a problem in the birth process.
The doctors should be able to see if there is going to be the need for a C-Section and should advise in a quick, professional fashion. Real time ultra sound technology has given doctors the ability to do check up on the child's development and the child's positioning.
